Dear Friends,

Happy New Year! Can you believe we are only a few short years away from the end of a millennial period and the beginning of a new one?

America's Founders also knew that this period of history would be magnificent, even fulfilling ancient prophecy. They knew their role was to be master servants to assist God in establishing a new order of freedom, prosperity, and peace.

However, as Dr. Skousen has reminded us, the Founding Fathers anticipated that future generations might face the terrible tragedy of departing from the brilliant light of Constitutional government.

They warned us, as though prophetically, to avoid the pitfalls of democratic socialism, police states, political parties, a runaway judiciary, destruction of states's rights, a dishonest monetary system, and, most destructive of all, the loss of morality and virtue among the people.

As destructive as these philosophies of men are and as much suffering and cataclysmic catastrophes that await a nation which embraces these ideas, there is a brilliant light ahead for America. The Founders, supported by readings in the Holy Scriptures, knew America would have to go through a period of cleansing but would emerge ready to embrace and live God's Law or the Perfect Law of Liberty.

How should a person act who has such a lofty outlook but finds himself in a decadent society that sometimes seems too far gone to correct? Because this is a time for making New Year's resolutions, I would like to share some of mine with you in hopes of giving you some ideas for the coming year.

1. I will realize the restoring of America's brilliance is my responsibility as a citizen. It cannot be left to NCCS, to a political party, to my church, or to my neighbor. I may not be able to do much but what I can do, that I will do. An indication of my commitment to America will be my willingness to share the Founders' message with my family, friends, and neighbors.

2. In order to have the proper foundation for good citizenship I will attend Church weekly, read daily from the Holy Scriptures, offer personal and family prayer, morning and night, and give honest offerings to the Lord.

3. I will review and retain in my mind the 28 Principles of Liberty upon which the Constitution rests so I can be alert to unconstitutional promises being made by candidates seeking public office during this campaign year.

4. Inasmuch as this is an election year, I will encourage candidates to base their views on the Constitution and on correct principles by writing or speaking to them and by circulating NCCS's Ten Questions to Ask Candidates for Federal Offices and Ten Questions to ask Candidates for Local/State Offices.

5. I will use my abilities to host or co-host a Making of America seminar. This is one of the best ways I can strengthen my friends and neighbors to be positive about America.

6. I will keep myself serviceable to my family, my church, my community, and to America by obeying the law and being positive in all of my associations.

7. I will make a monthly contribution to NCCS to help teach the Constitution to people all across the nation.

8. I will prepare myself and my family for difficult times ahead by staying out of debt and being more self-reliant.

9. I will be in contact periodically with my elected officials to give encouragement and counsel where needed and to invite them to learn about the Founder's formula for freedom.

10. I will work to educate and strengthen young people in my family and in the community with correct ideas of liberty. Our youth are our greatest resource on this earth to restore America's greatness.

11. I will strive to be a positive person who expects the best in people and has faith that the will of God will prevail. I will also continue to have faith in this great land and in its divine destiny.

12. I will have the spirit of sacrifice and consecration, knowing that few things of worth happen automatically but that it takes effort, time, and courage to make good things happen.

NCCS is committed to teaching 50 major Making of America seminars during 1996. We will respond on a first request basis from those who wish to host a seminar in their areas.
